Max was born in Houston, Missouri. Max accepted Christ in August of 1975 at a youth event in Plainview, Texas. He surrendered to the call to ministry during his senior year in high school. He graduated from Arlington Lamar High School in 1979. He received his B.A. from McMurry College (now University) in Abilene, Texas in 1984, Master of Divinity from Brite Divinity School at T.C.U. in 1990, and Doctor of Ministry from S.M.U. Perkins School of Theology in 2003. Max has two grown sons and a step-daughter. He also has five grandsons. Max is married to Carol Jo Burkhead. Max currently teaches eighth grade mathematics in the Arlington ISD and is a licensed real estate agent with Ember Realty out of Longview, Texas. Max also serves on the McMurry University Alumni Board of Directors.
